This isn’t just what I do. It’s what I live…
My Story Starts Where Most End…
Hi there, I’m Dr Gaveeta Chiba.
From an early age, I was fascinated by the intricate connection between the mind and the body. This curiosity led me to qualify as a Medical Doctor in 2000 and later specialise in Psychiatry at the University of the Witwatersrand. What began as a career in medicine soon evolved into a lifelong calling: to help people navigate the challenges of mental health with compassion, clarity, and practical tools for lasting change.
My journey has taken me across continents, from hospitals in South Africa to psychiatric wards in the UK, where I encountered the full spectrum of mental health struggles. These experiences shaped my belief that psychiatry must be more than diagnosis and medication; it must embrace the whole person. Over time, I found myself drawn to integrative psychiatry, an approach that combines evidence-based medicine with mindfulness, lifestyle practices, and an understanding of each individual’s unique story.
In 2023, I deepened this path through a Fellowship in Integrative Psychiatry with the Integrative Psychiatry Institute in Denver, Colorado. Alongside my certification in mindfulness-based therapies from Stellenbosch University, these studies reaffirmed what I had long witnessed in my patients: true healing often begins when we shift from treating symptoms to uncovering root causes.
In my practice, I work closely with individuals facing depression, anxiety, burnout, eating disorders, and the unique challenges that come with life transitions such as postpartum changes and menopause. My aim is always to empower, helping patients not only to cope but to reclaim their energy, confidence, and purpose.
Beyond the consulting room, I believe in breaking the silence around mental health. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of sharing insights on platforms like Radio 702, ENCA, Power FM, Soweto TV, and the Real Health Show. Each opportunity is a chance to remind people that mental wellness is not a distant ideal — it is possible, practical, and within reach.
My work is not just professional; it is deeply personal. I have witnessed how stress, trauma, and disconnection affect lives, families, and communities. I have also seen how small, mindful practices can transform the way we live. This is why I created The Inner Works Collection — tools, journals, and resources to make mental well-being part of everyday life.
At heart, I am both a psychiatrist and a guide — walking alongside my patients as they discover resilience, self-awareness, and joy. If there’s one message I hope to share, it’s this: mental health is not about fixing what’s “broken.” It’s about uncovering the strength, balance, and vitality that already exist within each of us.

In my work, I guide people to access deeper clarity and long-term emotional relief by building small, grounded rituals of reflection, journaling, mindfulness, and meaningful reset.
If you find yourself asking questions like:
- Why do I still feel stuck even after trying so hard to cope?
- Where is the version of me that laughs freely and rests easily?
- How do I create relationships and routines that actually feel like home?
Then you’re in the right place.
What I’ve learned is this:
Your emotional discomfort is not a sign of failure — it’s an invitation. An invitation to pause. To ask better questions. To choose a new way.
The Inner Work Philosophy
This platform is where that invitation becomes practice. Through guided journals, online rituals, meditations, and reflection tools, I help you come back to yourself — one page, one breath, one intention at a time.
Each tool here is designed to meet you exactly where you are, without pressure, shame, or perfectionism. Just presence.
Whether you’re in survival mode or ready to transform, there’s a space for you here.
Credentials, Yes — But Also Humanity
I hold a medical degree and specialist qualifications in psychiatry, but what anchors my work is the belief that healing is not just clinical, it’s personal, intuitive, and layered.
Over time, I’ve evolved from a purely diagnostic approach into something more integrative: science-informed, trauma-aware, emotionally intelligent, and grounded in lived experience.
Beyond the Bio
I’m a mother.
I’m endlessly curious.
I believe in deep rest, laughter, and starting again — as many times as it takes.
And I believe that writing things down can save your life.
I’m in love with language, rituals, and helping people realise they are not broken.
